Well, I am going to try to be as honest as I can be about my ratings:
Physcial well-being: 4 - My goal is to be more active. I have already started walking on the weekends, and will start some stationary cycling during the week. I might even start going to the gym I joined last year!
Spiritual well-being: 0 - My goal is to learn meditation. After I learn to to meditate, then I will try to practice it on a regular basis.
Psychological well-being: 7 - My goal is to "calm down" or worry less. That is what my daughter always says to me. She thinks I get worked up too easily over things that aren't that important and I think she knows me all too well.
For the "Crime of the Century", I enjoyed this exercise, but I could not concentrate for the entire time. I found the voice relaxing, but I found myself disagreeing with some of the suggestions he was was telling us to repeat out loud. I think I was too disagreeable to get into it, but plan to try it again soon.
Sally
You definitely have the prerequisite for a good strategy, honesty is the main thing I would do in any venture. I know where I am and that is important.
ReplyDeleteBeing physically active is half or more in creating change. 30 minutes a day of moderate activity is all it takes to stay healthy, a little more and there is progress. I would use your strategy and add looking at foods that provide good energy for the activity.
I am curious how you define spiritual. It comes from breath and I know you have some of that going on, again you are honest and that is a part of what breathes us. I also would include meditation in a program and work at it a little consistently versus more every now and then.
Your goal is to "calm down" or worry less is great and the activity you are doing will really help you with that, as well as will putting high energy, real food, into your body. I have found that I benefit, psychologically, when I ask myself why I disagree with suggestions that are good for me. What was it about the relaxation exercise you disagreed with? Or were you just disagreeing with life in general.
Hang in there this is a controversial field of study, but I think there is a great deal to learn.
Hi Sally,
ReplyDeleteOnce you focus on your breath you'll be fine. Do a seven count in, seven count rest, seven count out. Focus on the count and the breath and before you know it you're in deep transistion, and Viola relaxed!
Sally,
ReplyDeleteI bet you are more than a zero in spirituality. Anyone with kids or pets is above a zero. When you look at a kid or pet with love, you have spirituality. When I saw my first horse being born, I was filled with so much awe that I cried. Spirituality is not defined by the ability to meditate. Meditation is great. It has helped me but I think there is much more to spiritualy than that. Of course, I am often wrong but I do not think so in this case.
